Strelitz Early Childhood Center Preschool wins distinguished 2011 Safe Harbor Award

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA---Congratulations to the Strelitz Early Childhood Center Preschool for earning the distinguished 2011 Safe Harbor Award. This special honor was given by the non-profit United Way agency, Children’s Harbor Early Care and Education Centers, for its hard work and dedication in making a significant difference in the lives of Hampton Roads’ children. In addition to receiving a beautifully engraved statue, the Strelitz preschool also received an embossed certificate from Bob McDonell, Governor of Virginia, and letters of congratulations from Senator Mark Warner, and Congressman Scott Rigell.

“It is always exciting,” says Alene Kaufman, Strelitz preschool director, “when our efforts are recognized by such prestigious persons and entities. This award shows parents that we are strongly committed to quality and excellence when it comes to educating children.  Growth and development at this age is critical as we are working hard to create a solid foundation for learning, one that will give preschool children a thirst and passion for knowledge that they will build upon as they grow. Studies show that children enrolled in a program that stimulates thinking, collaborative work, and problem solving such as the Strelitz preschool are more likely to succeed in day school, college, and beyond.”

Past recipients of the Safe Harbor Award have also included Zena Herod (2009), head of school, Hebrew Academy of Tidewater, and Annabel Sacks (2008), past Board of Trustees, Hebrew Academy of Tidewater, as well as past president of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, and past president of the Tidewater Jewish Foundation. Other 2011 recipients include: Brenda Brown, Marcus Calabrese, Sandra Fabian, Marie McFadden, the Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation, Navy Child and Youth Service, Temple Richardson, Mary Riley, and Leon Sankofa.

The Strelitz Early Childhood Center welcomes children of all faiths, ages two to four, and also offers before and after care. The preschool subscribes to learning while playing in a nurturing Jewish environment. For more information about our program, visit www.strelitzecc.net. The Strelitz Early Childhood Center is an educational partnership of Hebrew Academy of Tidewater and the Simon Family Jewish Community Center. It is also a recipient agency of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater.
